2009 - The Final Stretch
It's New Years Day for 2009.
It's been a while since posting anything here so I'm going to recap some things.
The book is coming along nicely. Almost done proof-reading and almost ready to start writing Book 3, with Book 1 to follow after that. I have semi interested publishers (nothing official, two people just want me to refine what I have and send them some samples whenever I get around to it. They seem interested, but not interested, so I'm not sure if they were just being nice or whether they're genuine. Can't afford to get hopes up too soon, so will see how it goes once I'm happy with some samples).
A few things have been updated and tweaked in Book 2, hopefully for the better. Plot holes have been filled, extra tidbits of information have been sprinkled through that link to other components in Book 1 and Book 3. The "mastermind" side of things has been given a code name, and overall the book is getting nicely trimmed and plumped at the same time. A lot of science is being confirmed and some new theories have been incorporated based on new discoveries in real world quantum physics. The start-up of the collider in Europe has also spurred some further details, which some of the characters utilise.
Katie's role is becoming a little larger, as is Ryan's - who is to be part of Book 3 in a much larger capacity than he is in Book 2. The relationship between Joseph and Ryan is interesting for me. They bounce off each other quite well, yet they have moments when their personalities clash and cause friction. Katie will become a lot stronger and she will have a slightly larger focus in act 3 than what I had previously. I found in my original draft she seemed to disappear for a bit as Joseph went on his own journey, so I've incorporated her into the storyline some more as a subplot which slightly links into the much larger scheme of things.
One of the biggest changes I've made is to character names. I decided to rename characters using name's that provide personality meanings to them.
GASA for example, has been renamed to TerraSpace Corporation. GASA seemed too juvenile/cliched and was just a plain rip-off of NASA. TerraSpace Corporation is also the world's primary transportation company. They look after not only space flight, but normal flight, public transport and a whole bunch of other stuff. They're very much everywhere, hence why it is a lot more dramatic with things that happen with the company later in Book 3... stay tuned.
Renee Sandford has been renamed to Paige Jaeger.
Dmitri Tirklov has been renamed to Aleksandr Lyov.
These new names have meanings behind them. The meanings are for my purposes only. They won't be elaborated on in the book at all - at least, not directly, so for that reason I'm not going to say the meanings here either. If you want to look them up, go ahead. :-)
Book 3's notes and timeline has also been getting a look at and it's becoming much more tighter as time goes on. Book 3 explains some of the origins of certain characters, as well as providing nice tie-ups of loose ends that get looked at all the way from during Book 1.
Spec wise, book 2 is currently 539 pages. 276,291 words.
Apart from that, I'm still plodding away. I say it every post lately, but it's the unfortunate truth. I just don't have time to spend on it every day/week, despite sometimes having cravings just to sit down with the laptop and read it for hours.
I honestly really enjoy reading it back to myself. Never before have I been so interested in a book I've written so I'm very pleased with this one, and hope it and I will continue to progress toward some sort of resolution.
Anyways... I'll be off. Until next time.
